American museums are evading the restitution of Nazi-looted art.
That claim comes from a ?World Jewish Restitution Organization? report ? which also says a number of U.S. institutions are using complicated legal tactics ? to avoid resolving cases on their own merits.
And the report says that?s a deterrent to claimants coming forward ? because they face a lengthy and expensive legal struggle.
There are several recommendations from the organization ? including one that The American Alliance of Museums ensure its members comply with its guidelines ?by abstaining from blocking claims on technical grounds.?
The report recommends that museums that fail to do so ? should have their accreditation reviewed by the Alliance.
The report also calls for legislation to extend statutes of limitations for Holocaust-era restitution claims.
